Albert Einstein on War

If you didn't know already; Albert Einstein didnt just give us many advances in science, he also had a lot to say about many other things including war. I have a few books by him including "The World as I see It" and "Ideas and Opinions" which can be found here. He absolutely hated war and here is one of his most famous quotes which illustrates this perfectly:

"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable loce-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder. "

Iranian Comedian Omid Djalili

I went to see Omid Djalili live roughly a year and half ago. This guy is seriously funny and worth a watch for his fantastic array of accents. There is quite a good selection of clips on youtube so hopefully this will inspire you to have a search. Enjoy!

Donald Trump on War

I am not sure if I agree with everything he says but I am not convinced it is ever possible to agree with everything that any person has to say on issues relating to Iraq or anything in general for that matter. This is a very interesting video, particularly when he refers to his own country's popularity in Europe, my home country of England and his comments on Condoleezza Rice's inability to make deals. It is definitely worth a watch. He does seem to view issues surrounding government with a less biased and more open eyed view.

In the Positive

As I survey my first couple of posts.. I feel they started off a little negative. So I am now posting a picture of a cute puppy to balance the blog.

Cost of the Death Penalty

I am always amazed by how few people realise how expensive the Death Penalty really is. Or at least from evidence how expensive it has proved to be in America. I mention this because there was the usual 'Should life mean life?' debate on the bbc website the other day. As per usual, the blood thirsty comments calling for the death penalty came rolling in. I happened to mention the fact that it is believed that the Death Penalty actually costs more money than imprisoning somebody for the rest of their life. This information can be easily discovered on google by searching for 'The cost of the death penalty'. And there we were all thinking it was just the cost of a piece of rope.

It started..

I was doing my usual rounds on the BBC.co.uk news website, submitting my usual rants to the 'Have Your Say', some of my nonsense can be found here, and I came across 'Iraq on the Web'. Included within this section of the website there was an article on Iraqi bloggers and in that particular instance, their reaction to Saddam's execution. I found my way to a website Neurotic Iraqi wife, which I found particularly fascinating. I wished to leave a comment on an article so I went on to create a google account which led me on to create this!
